Troops Ambush Terrorists, Kill 8, Foil Planned Attack in Katsina
Troops of the 17 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with hybrid security forces, have foiled a planned terrorist attack on commuters in Katsina State, killing eight suspected terrorists and recovering weapons and motorcycles during a successful intelligence-led ambush.
The operation, conducted along the Kakumi–Guga Road in Bakori Local Government Area, was based on credible intelligence indicating that terrorists were preparing to attack unsuspecting commuters travelling through the area.
According to military sources, the planned attack was being coordinated by terrorists loyal to a notorious bandit kingpin identified as Idi Abasu Aiki. The armed group was reportedly moving towards the target location on five motorcycles when security operatives intercepted them.
Acting on the intelligence, troops and hybrid forces swiftly mobilised to the area and strategically positioned themselves along the terrorists’ route, laying a well-coordinated ambush.

The ensuing gun battle resulted in the neutralisation of eight terrorists, effectively foiling the planned attack and preventing what could have been a deadly assault on civilians.
Following the operation, troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the scene, recovering two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists during their movement.
Military authorities described the operation as a significant success in the ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry campaign under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, noting that it reflects the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and collaboration between conventional troops and hybrid security forces.
The troops have since intensified security measures in the area, maintaining dominance through aggressive patrols and surveillance operations to prevent any retaliatory attacks by fleeing members of the terrorist group against nearby communities.
The latest operation underscores the military’s sustained commitment to protecting lives and property while denying terrorists and bandits freedom of movement across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
