Military Thwarts Coordinated ISWAP Offensive on Maiduguri, Buratai Axis
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) targeting parts of Maiduguri metropolis and the Buratai axis of Borno State.
The foiled attacks occurred between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Friday, when the insurgents simultaneously advanced towards Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross area in an apparent attempt to breach the Maiduguri metropolis.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops, acting on an effective early warning system, detected the terrorists’ movements before they could reach their targets and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower from multiple directions.
The swift military response disrupted the planned assault, forcing the insurgents to abandon their mission and retreat after intense exchanges of gunfire.

In separate but related operations, troops also foiled attempted ISWAP infiltrations at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in the Buratai axis of Borno State.
During the pursuit of the fleeing terrorists around Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). However, no casualties were recorded among the troops, and the operation continued without disruption.
Military sources said clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing across the affected locations to track down fleeing insurgents, recover abandoned weapons or equipment, and prevent further threats to surrounding communities.
The military reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations under Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement and strengthen security across the North-East.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
