Police Rescue Four Kidnap Victims After School Attack in Kogi
LOKOJA — The Kogi State Police Command has rescued all four persons abducted during the attack on Government Secondary School, Olowa Agbajo, in Dekina Local Government Area of the state, following a coordinated security operation involving multiple agencies.
The victims were rescued on Thursday, July 16, 2026, two days after they were kidnapped during the attack on the school on July 14.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the rescue operation was coordinated by the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, in collaboration with the Commander of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lokoja, Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, and the Kogi State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd.).
The operation involved personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, local vigilantes, hunters and other security stakeholders.

The police said sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated bush-combing missions mounted sustained pressure on the kidnappers, leading to the successful rescue of Elder Daniel Iyanda, Mr. Solomon Peter, Miss Dorcas Sunday and Miss Dorcas Samuel at about 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
The Command disclosed that security agencies have identified those responsible for the abduction and are intensifying efforts to apprehend them.
According to the statement, with the victims now safely rescued, security operatives are closing in on the suspects, who will be arrested and prosecuted.
The police also announced that investigations had commenced into the alleged unauthorized use of the abandoned Government Secondary School as a purported National Examinations Council (NECO) examination centre.
It warned that anyone found culpable in connection with the matter would face the full weight of the law.
Commending the successful operation, Commissioner of Police Kankarofi expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Nigerian Army, other security agencies, local vigilantes, hunters and community stakeholders for their cooperation and support.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality.
