Information Minister Congratulates Nigeria’s Ibietan on Re-election as APRA Secretary General
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan on his re-election as Secretary General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), describing the development as a testament to his professionalism, leadership and significant contributions to the advancement of public relations across Africa.
Dr. Ibietan secured a fresh mandate during the APRA General Assembly held in Swakopmund, Namibia, where delegates also re-elected Mr. Arik Karani of Kenya as President and Professor Michele Mekeme of Cameroon as Vice President of the continental body.

In a congratulatory message, the Minister said the re-election reflected the confidence reposed in Ibietan by communication professionals across Africa and underscored his capacity to drive the Association’s vision.
“On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, I congratulate Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan on his well-deserved re-election as Secretary General of APRA. This honour is not only a recognition of his professional excellence but also a source of pride for Nigeria and the entire communications community,” Idris said.
The Minister expressed confidence that Ibietan would continue to provide purposeful leadership as APRA strengthens collaboration among public relations practitioners on the continent and advances initiatives supporting Africa’s digital transformation agenda.
He also commended APRA for its sustained efforts to promote ethical communication, strengthen professional standards and enhance the practice of public relations across Africa.
Idris further reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to host the 37th APRA Annual Conference alongside the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) in Abuja later this year, expressing optimism that the event would further showcase Africa’s growing influence in global strategic communication and public relations.
