IGP Disu Decorates 30 Senior Officers, Charges Them on Integrity, Welfare, Professionalism
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday decorated 30 newly promoted senior police officers, urging them to uphold integrity, strengthen leadership, and prioritise the welfare of personnel as they assume higher responsibilities within the Nigeria Police Force.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, saw the elevation of 13 officers to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and 17 others to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).
Addressing the newly promoted officers, the IGP described their elevation as a recognition of years of dedicated service, professionalism, resilience, and commitment to duty. He said the promotions reflected the Force’s commitment to a merit-based system that rewards competence, performance, and integrity.
Disu acknowledged the enormous sacrifices made by police officers in the line of duty, noting that many had endured prolonged separation from their families, demanding operational deployments, and the pressure of meeting public expectations. He urged the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by providing exemplary leadership during challenging times, stressing that their conduct would set the standard for officers under their command.

The police chief charged the newly promoted officers to maintain zero tolerance for misconduct, abuse of office, and corruption while leading with compassion and fairness. According to him, effective leadership requires not only enforcing discipline but also protecting the welfare of subordinates, adding that a police force that cares for its personnel inspires greater commitment and sacrifice.
He further reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to building a modern, intelligence-led and technology-driven policing system aimed at enhancing public safety and strengthening citizens’ trust. Disu noted that public confidence in the police is earned through fairness, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law, describing it as a critical factor in effective crime prevention and intelligence gathering.
The IGP also pledged continued investment in the welfare, training, and professional development of officers, while encouraging the newly promoted senior officers to mentor younger personnel with patience, honesty, and commitment. He equally paid tribute to the families of the promoted officers, acknowledging their sacrifices and unwavering support throughout their loved ones’ careers.
Disu expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his sustained support for the Nigeria Police Force and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring a transparent, fair, and credible promotion process. He urged the newly decorated officers to wear their new ranks with humility and pride, reminding them that their leadership would inspire the next generation of police officers as the Force continues its drive towards professionalism, discipline, accountability, and effective service delivery.
