Military Destroys Terrorist Enclave in Benue, Arrest Six Suspects in Joint Operations
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recorded operational successes in Benue and Nasarawa states, destroying a suspected terrorist enclave in Benue and arresting six suspects, including a local vigilante found with illegal ammunition in Nasarawa.
In Benue State, troops of Sector 1, OPWS, conducted a fighting patrol at about 11:00 a.m. on August 1, targeting suspected terrorist hideouts in Atombagen, Chito, Tse Kighr, Tse Anaka and Sabongida Leke in Ukum Local Government Area.
Security sources revealed that the troops encountered no fleeing terrorists during the operation but arrested five individuals at Sabongida Leke over suspected links to criminal activities in the area.
The troops subsequently destroyed a suspected terrorist enclave and several life-support structures believed to have served as operational and logistical bases for the criminal elements.

In a separate operation in Nasarawa State, troops of Sector 2, OPWS, arrested a local vigilante at Gidan Ausa in Doma Local Government Area for alleged illegal possession of ammunition.
The suspect was apprehended at about 5:00 p.m. on August 1 during a security operation and was reportedly found in possession of 12 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, which he could not satisfactorily account for.
The suspect was handed over to the Nigeria Police, Doma Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution, while the recovered ammunition was retained by the troops.
Military sources said the operations form part of sustained efforts by OPWS to dismantle criminal and terrorist support networks, deny armed groups freedom of movement, disrupt their logistics and curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition across the affected states.
The arrested suspects are expected to undergo further investigation to establish their respective roles and possible links to criminal activities.
