Troops Dismantle 3 IPOB/ESN Camps, Neutralize 3, Recover Explosives, Weapons in Anambra
Troops of the newly established 15 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have dismantled three suspected Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) camps and recovered weapons, explosives and other logistics during an intelligence-led operation in Anambra State.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026, following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected IPOB/ESN operatives using camps located at Osuakwa, along the boundary between Ihiala and Ogbaru Local Government Areas.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of 15 Brigade, in collaboration with personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) and members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, launched a coordinated dawn operation against the identified locations.
The troops reportedly came under hostile fire from the suspected terrorists during the operation but responded decisively, overpowering the attackers after a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Three suspected IPOB/ESN members were neutralised, while the three camps were subsequently overrun and destroyed to prevent their continued use as operational bases.
The troops also recovered a cache of arms, explosives and other items believed to have been used to support the group’s activities.

Recovered items included one FN rifle with 10 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, one pump-action shotgun with five cartridges and 15 sticks of dynamite.
The troops also recovered four motorcycles, one gas cylinder, three hybrid batteries, two car batteries and three handheld radio chargers, among other items.
Further exploitation of the operational area resulted in the arrest of a suspected IPOB/ESN member identified as Chijioke, as well as a male and female suspected accomplices.
The suspects were reportedly found in the company of six children during the operation.
The Commander, 15 Brigade, Nigerian Army, commended the troops, DSS personnel and members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group for their courage, discipline and effective inter-agency cooperation during the operation.
He described the successful raid as another significant setback for criminal and terrorist elements operating in the South East and attempting to undermine peace and security in the region.
The Nigerian Army said 15 Brigade would sustain intelligence-driven offensive operations in collaboration with sister security agencies and relevant local stakeholders to identify, disrupt and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks across Anambra State.
The Brigade further reaffirmed its commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding residents across the state and the wider South East.
