Defence Ministry Assures Military Veterans of Commitment to Pension, Welfare Concerns
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the welfare, remuneration and pension concerns of military veterans, assuring them that issues surrounding their entitlements are receiving urgent attention.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, gave the assurance on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, when representatives of military veterans paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Defence at Ship House, Abuja.
The Minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Richard Pheelangwah, acknowledged the sacrifices and distinguished service rendered by military veterans to the nation, stressing that their welfare remains a priority of the government.
General Musa said concerns relating to wage and pension adjustments were receiving urgent attention, with relevant military, pension and financial authorities engaged to develop a fair, sustainable and implementable resolution.

He said the ongoing engagement was aimed at ensuring that veterans were not unfairly disadvantaged in any adjustment to their entitlements.
The Minister appealed to the veterans to remain calm and patient, urging them to sustain constructive engagement with the government.
According to him, sustained dialogue remains the most effective approach to resolving outstanding concerns while preserving the dignity, honour and mutual respect owed to those who have served the country.
Musa further explained that any adjustment to veterans’ entitlements must be properly computed, adequately funded and implemented in line with existing approvals, regulations and due process.
He noted that adherence to the established procedures was necessary to guarantee the sustainability of any intervention and prevent unintended disparities.
The Minister assured the veterans that the Ministry of Defence would continue to engage their representatives and provide appropriate updates as progress was made towards resolving the issues raised.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s appreciation of the patriotism, courage and sacrifices of military veterans, assuring them that their service to the nation would continue to receive sustained attention through efforts to protect their welfare and legitimate entitlements.
