Navy Recovers 33,000 Litres of Illegally Refined Oil in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on illegal oil refining activities in Rivers State, disrupting two illegal refining sites and recovering approximately 33,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
The operation, conducted by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER on September 6, 2026, was carried out in Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation uncovered eight dugout pits, sacks and reservoirs allegedly associated with the illegal refining activities.

He said the affected sites and recovered products were subsequently handled in accordance with established procedures.
The latest operation followed earlier interventions by the Navy in the area, including the disruption of two illegal refining sites on August 28.
The Navy said the sustained operations were aimed at preventing operators of illegal refineries from re-establishing and maintaining illicit refining activities in the area.
The suspected operators, however, fled the sites before the arrival of the naval team, and no arrest was made during the operation.
The Navy said it would continue to sustain pressure on illegal refining networks as part of efforts to curb crude oil theft and associated illicit activities in the Niger Delta.
