FG Hands Over King’s College Lagos to Old Boys Association
The Federal Government has approved the concession of King’s College, Lagos, to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA), paving the way for the association to take over the management of the historic federal school.
The Federal Ministry of Education disclosed this in a letter dated September 4, 2026, addressed to the Principal of King’s College, Lagos.
The letter, obtained by PRNigeria titled “Concession of King’s College, Lagos to King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA),” stated that the concession followed the completion of the necessary processes and signing of a concession agreement between the relevant parties.
According to the ministry, arrangements have been concluded for the immediate handover of the college to KCOBA in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
The transition will involve the establishment of a committee charged with ensuring the seamless transfer of the school’s management to the old boys’ association.

“The Transition Committee is to ensure a seamless transition of the College Management to KCOBA within six (6) months after which funding of the College from Federation Account will be stopped,” the ministry stated.
The directive means the transition is expected to be completed within six months, after which the college will cease to receive funding from the Federation Account under the arrangement outlined in the letter.
The ministry consequently directed the school authorities to activate the necessary machinery to facilitate the transfer of management to KCOBA for what it described as the effective administration of the institution.
It also requested the school to provide the Transition Committee with a list of members of staff willing to remain in the employment of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
The directive was conveyed in a letter referenced FME/DSSE/SH/S.701/C/I/I/78 and signed by Dr. (Mrs.) O. F. Olatunji-David, Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, on behalf of the Minister of Education.
The ministry further directed the Principal to bring the development to the attention of all concerned.
The concession represents a significant change in the management structure of King’s College, one of Nigeria’s prominent federal unity schools, with KCOBA expected to assume responsibility for its administration following the transition period.
