2027 Elections: IGP Disu Orders Senior Officers to Strengthen Intelligence, Operational Readiness
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed senior police officers to translate the resolutions of the 2026 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers into practical reforms, particularly in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Disu gave the charge on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the three-day conference, held in Owerri, Imo State, urging participants to ensure that the true impact of the retreat was reflected in improved policing across commands and formations nationwide.
The conference, tagged CARSPO 2026, was the sixth edition of the annual gathering of senior police officers.
The IGP directed participants to adopt a train-the-trainers approach by cascading lessons from the conference to Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical commanders and other personnel under their supervision.
Ahead of the 2027 elections, he urged police commands to strengthen operational planning, intelligence gathering, personnel training and community engagement.
Disu reiterated that the loyalty of the Nigeria Police Force remained with the Constitution, the law and the Nigerian people, rather than any political party, candidate or interest group.
He further charged senior officers to lead by example and ensure that professionalism, impartiality, discipline, integrity, respect for citizens’ rights and accountability guided the conduct of personnel.

The IGP also underscored the growing importance of artificial intelligence, digital intelligence and data-driven policing, alongside professional media engagement, timely communication and sustained partnerships with communities to improve public confidence in the Force.
At the ceremony, resolutions adopted at the conference provided for a comprehensive Nigeria Police Election Security Roadmap anchored on intelligence, political neutrality, professionalism, technology, community partnership, accountability and inter-agency collaboration.
The roadmap also emphasised early warning mechanisms, operational coordination, personnel preparedness and effective responses to election-related threats.
The closing ceremony was attended by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma; President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN; the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission; members of the Imo State Executive Council; senior police officers and other invited stakeholders.
Disu expressed appreciation to the Imo State Government and people for their hospitality, as well as Lenders Consult Nigeria Limited, facilitators, lecturers and participants for their contributions to the success of the conference.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remained committed to implementing the outcomes of CARSPO 2026 to improve election preparedness, strengthen supervision, advance intelligence-led and technology-enabled policing, enhance community engagement and promote professional conduct across its commands and formations.
