Kwara PDP Names Prince Omar Gambari DG for 2027 Kawu Agaka Campaign
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari, an international lawyer, entrepreneur and corporate strategic adviser, as Director‑General of its Campaign Organisation for the 2027 governorship election.
The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, following an expanded leadership meeting attended by the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka, and presided over by State Chairman Isa Bawa Adamu.
Prince Gambari — widely known as OBG — is the son of Professor Ibrahim Gambari, former Chief of Staff to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, and a member of the Ilorin Emirate royal family.
He began his education at A.B.U. Staff School, Zaria, and the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, before briefly serving in the Nigerian Army. He later earned a degree in Economics and proceeded to study Law at Fordham University School of Law, New York, gaining admission to the New York State Bar in 2000.

Gambari worked at Merrill Lynch, the Legal Department of the United Nations, and the international law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, before establishing his private legal practice. His professional experience spans international law, technology, energy, finance, real estate, agriculture and development.
He founded the Nigerian Youth Organization in New York in the late 1990s and currently runs the OBG Foundation, which supports youth empowerment, education, mentorship and enterprise development.
Gambari was among the leading aspirants in the PDP’s 2026 governorship primaries, where he drew notable attention for what party leaders described as youthful engagement, fresh ideas and an international professional outlook. After Engr. Agaka emerged as the party’s flagbearer, Gambari remained active in party activities — a loyalty the PDP says it has now rewarded with his appointment as campaign DG.
He previously contested the Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency seat in 2018 under the PDP.
The PDP said Gambari’s blend of international legal expertise, business exposure, youthful energy and understanding of modern political communication informed the decision. Party officials believe his appointment will inject fresh momentum and cross‑generational appeal into the campaign.
Political observers in Kwara say the 2027 governorship race — featuring PDP’s Agaka and APC’s candidate, Speaker Yakubu Danladi — is shaping up to be one of the state’s most competitive contests since the 2019 “Otoge” political upset.
