ABU Alumni Appoints Kanwan Katsina Usman Kankara as Board of Trustees Chairman
The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Katsina State Branch, has appointed the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, as Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The appointment was conveyed in an official letter signed by the Chairman of the association in Katsina State, Alhaji Bashir Bala Zango.
Other members appointed to the board are the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar; retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Hajia Binta Ayi Ibrahim; Special Adviser, Department of Local Government Inspectorate, Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana; and environmental engineer and consultant, Engineer Bala Abdullahi Maimaje.
A retired Director of Security in the Katsina State Governor’s Office, Alhaji Ibrahim Daku, was appointed Secretary to the board.
According to the association, the appointments were approved by its Executive Committee and membership in accordance with the provisions of its constitution.

It said Kankara’s selection to lead the BoT reflected the association’s confidence in his integrity, experience and commitment to the development of the alumni body, Katsina State and Nigeria.
As chairman, the traditional ruler is expected to provide strategic guidance, institutional memory and counsel to strengthen the growth, unity, credibility and long-term sustainability of the Katsina State branch.
The association expressed optimism that Kankara’s experience and standing would strengthen stakeholder engagement and encourage members to uphold the ideals and values of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Congratulating him on the appointment, the association described the recognition as well deserved and expressed confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership to the board.
Kankara is an alumnus of ABU, where he obtained a degree in Political Science in 1981.
Following his graduation, he proceeded to the then Bendel State for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving as an Assistant Secretary at Oshimili Local Government Area in Asaba.
He subsequently joined the Nigeria Customs Service, where he served for 35 years before retiring from active service.
Since retirement, Kankara has remained active in community development and traditional leadership as the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
