DSS Secures Death Sentence for Suspect Over Kidnapping, Murder in Sokoto
The Department of State Services (DSS) has secured a death sentence against Ibrahim Usman, popularly known as Dan Iyali, over his involvement in the kidnapping and killing of three persons in Sokoto State in 2023.
Usman was prosecuted before the High Court of Justice of Sokoto State, Sokoto Judicial Division, alongside other suspects who remain at large.
He was charged with criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, culpable homicide punishable with death, and voluntarily causing grievous hurt without provocation.

The charges stemmed from a September 2023 incident in which three persons were allegedly kidnapped and subsequently killed in the state.
Following the trial, the court found Usman guilty of the offences and sentenced him to death.
The conviction represents a judicial outcome in the DSS’s prosecution of suspected kidnappers and other individuals accused of involvement in serious violent crimes.
The service has continued to pursue criminal cases involving suspected terrorists, kidnappers and other alleged perpetrators through the courts as part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability for violent crimes across the country.
