Navy Recovers 80,000 Litres of Crude Oil, Arrests Three Drug Suspects in Delta
The Nigerian Navy has recovered approximately 80,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and arrested three suspected drug traffickers in separate operations conducted in Delta State.
The operations, carried out between September 21 and 23, 2026, by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship DELTA (NNS DELTA), were targeted at crude oil theft and other forms of criminal activity within the state.
In the first operation on September 21, naval personnel discovered a large dugout reservoir containing about 30,000 litres of crude oil in the Oteghele general area.
Two days later, another operation in the Obodo Amadino general area led to the discovery of a second dugout reservoir containing approximately 50,000 litres of crude oil.
The Navy said the recovered crude oil was handled in line with established operational procedures.

In a related operation, personnel of NNS DELTA, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), also raided suspected illicit drug activities in the Warri general area and its environs on September 22.
The joint operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of about 15 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa, 0.5 gramme of cocaine and 0.5 gramme of methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth.
The suspects and the recovered illicit substances were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The Director of Naval Information, Commodore Abiodun FOLORUNSHO, said the operations underscored the Navy’s continued efforts to tackle criminal activities within its area of responsibility.
The operations also highlighted the role of inter-agency cooperation in confronting the interconnected security challenges of crude oil theft, illegal petroleum activities and illicit drug trafficking across Nigeria’s coastal and maritime environment.
