NAF Launches Search-and-Rescue Operation After Helicopter Crash in Ondo
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has activated a Search-and-Rescue operation following an aircraft accident involving an ATR-42 in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, while the aircraft was reportedly conducting a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.
The NAF, in a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said rescue efforts were being conducted in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.

According to the statement, the Force had mobilised resources to support the ongoing operation and was working with other stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Nigerian Air Force is committed to ensuring the success of the ongoing Search and Rescue efforts,” the statement said.
The NAF, however, did not immediately disclose details about the circumstances of the accident or the condition and number of persons onboard the aircraft.
The Force said further information would be released as the Search-and-Rescue operation progresses.
The incident comes amid heightened attention to aviation safety, with emergency agencies expected to continue efforts to secure the crash site, locate all persons who may have been onboard and establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
