2027: Garba Yusuf Named Spokesperson for APC Kano Presidential, Governorship Campaign Management Team
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has appointed Hon. Garba Yusuf Abubakar as Chief Campaign Spokesperson for its Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Management Team ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abubakar’s appointment is part of a 18-member campaign management structure unveiled by the party to coordinate its presidential and governorship campaign activities across Kano State.
The list, signed by the Kano State APC Chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, places Abubakar in charge of the campaign’s principal public communication role, with four other spokespersons designated to support the team’s media engagements.
The campaign management team is headed by former Kano State Deputy Governor and former Minister, H.E. Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, who will serve as Director-General.
Gwarzo, a former acting chairman of the APC in Kano State, is expected to oversee the team’s overall coordination and daily campaign engagements across the state.
Under the announced structure, Hon. Sunusi Majidadi Kiru, Hon. Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, Hon. Bashir Sanata and Haj. A’isha Shariff were appointed Campaign Spokespersons II, III, IV and V, respectively.
The appointments establish a five-member spokesperson team, with Abubakar serving as its lead figure. The arrangement is expected to provide a coordinated channel for communicating the party’s campaign positions, activities and messages to the public.
The campaign management team also has zonal leadership positions covering Kano South, Kano North and Kano Central. Dr. Yunusa Adamu Dangwani was appointed Deputy Director-General for Kano South, Gwani (Dr.) Ali Haruna Abubakar for Kano North, and Senator Abdussalam Abdulkarim (A.A. Zaura) for Kano Central.

Other appointments include Prof. Aliyu Isa Aliyu as Administrative Officer I, Dr. Kabiru Sani Yakubu as Administrative Officer II, Nana Asmau Jibrin as Assistant Secretary, and Hon. Aminu Musa Gabasawa as Deputy Secretary II, Dr. Hamisu Sadi Ali as Deputy Secretary II, while Hon. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa serves as Secretary.
The composition of the team reflects the party’s organisational approach to campaign coordination, with designated responsibilities for administration, operations, women’s affairs, regional mobilisation and public communication.
The establishment of the campaign management structure comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, with Kano remaining a significant political battleground because of its large electorate and influence on national electoral outcomes.
For Abubakar, the appointment as Chief Campaign Spokesperson places him at the forefront of the APC’s campaign communication efforts in Kano State, where public messaging, media engagement and the presentation of the party’s candidates and policy positions are expected to feature prominently in the run-up to the elections.
Garba Yusuf, popularly known as Garba Izala, is a seasoned Kano politician who has served in multiple capacities as a commissioner across key ministries, including Information, Environment, Works and Housing, Finance and Economic Development, and Water Resources. He held these positions during the eight-year administration of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and continued his service in the last two years of Abdullahi Ganduje’s tenure.
The announcement did not specify the commencement date or detailed operational schedule of the campaign team.
