Tinubu’s Ministerial List: Between Political Clout and Leadership Pedigree, By Usman Bello Balarabe

The much-anticipated release of the ministerial list by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been a ‘juicy’ topic of discussion among politicians and political analysts alike, as the deadline for the submission inches forward.

The list shall contain the names of individuals who would be appointed to serve as ministers in the next federal cabinet. However, not all politicians will make the cut, and the exclusion of some names will surely spark concerns about political worth and capabilities.

It is likely that politicians who are not included in the ministerial list would feel disappointed and frustrated. Being excluded from such an important appointment would undoubtedly be a blow to their political aspirations and ambitions.

However, it is important to note that the inclusion or exclusion of some political gladiators from the awaited ministerial list is not necessarily an indication of political worth or capabilities of some over others.

As for the President, he must make the best decisions in national interest, and this may mean that some politicians must be left out. The selection process is not an easy one, and it requires a careful consideration of various factors such as experience, competence, and track record.

President Tinubu would also have to ensure that the final list reflects the diversity of the country and that it includes individuals who can represent the interests of different regions and groups.

Meanwhile, there is a growing sense of disappointment and frustration among the public awaiting the list, this is so the adrenaline of waiting can stop pumping and they can finally see the calibre of people who would help steer the affairs of the country in different ministeries.

As a journalist and public relations practitioner who have been following the political climate in Nigeria with great interest, especially as the country continues to grapple with issues of nepotism and cronyism in government appointments, I find it necessary to dissect the issue in such a way that gives hope to Nigerians.

Firstly, the president would have to prioritize individuals who have a proven track record of public service. This includes individuals who have served in various capacities in the past, and have demonstrated a commitment to public service. Such individuals are likely to have the experience and expertise needed to serve in the federal cabinet and contribute to the development of Nigeria.

Secondly, the president should consider individuals who have a strong background in their respective fields i.e. those who have excelled in their professions and have a deep understanding of the issues that are relevant to their fields. Such individuals are likely to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the table. Putting square pegs in a square hole would help drive nation building.

Furthermore, the President as a matter of fact would also need to prioritize individuals who have a strong sense of integrity and ethics. This comprises personalities who have a reputation for honesty, transparency, and accountability. Such persons are likely to inspire trust and confidence in the public, promote good governance and ethical leadership in the country.

In addition, the president would do well to pick individuals with robust understanding of the country’s political landscape. These are persons who have a good grasp of the issues that are relevant to different region and group in the country. Such individuals are likely to be effective in representing the interests of their constituents and in promoting national unity and cohesion.

Finally, the president should prioritize individuals with strong commitment to the development of this country. This includes who are passionate about contributing to the growth and progress of the nation and are willing to work hard to achieve goals required by their portfolio. Such individuals are likely to be effective in driving change and in promoting the country’s interests at home and abroad.

As political analysts continue to dissect the ministerial list, it is important to remember that the selection process is not an exact science. The president must make tough decisions, and not everyone will be pleased with the final outcome.

However, what is important is that the final list reflects the best interests of the country and that it includes individuals who can help to move the nation forward.

An ideal ministerial list is a recipe for political success. In a nutshell, it should contain names with proven track record of public service, a strong background in their respective fields, a strong sense of integrity and ethics, a deep understanding of the political landscape of the country, and a strong commitment to national growth.

Ultimately, the ministerial list is a test of political worth and capabilities. It is an opportunity for politicians to demonstrate their commitment to public service and their ability to contribute to the development of the country. Those who would eventually not make the cut should not despair but continue to strive for excellence in their political career.

It is also worth noting that becoming a Minister is not the only avenue for politicians to serve the country. There are other ways through which they can contribute to the development of Nigeria, such as through legislative work, community development, and advocacy. Though the options may not be as glamorous as being a minister, they are just as important in shaping the country’s future.
