Kanam Media, PRNigeria Organise One-day Capacity Building for Female Reporters

Kanam Media, PRNigeria Organise One-day Capacity Building for Female Reporters

Kanam Media Hub, owners of Kamed TV, has in partnership with PRNigeria trained female reporters on pushing contents that advance women voices in the society.

The Editor-in-Chief, PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, Mallam Yushau Shuaib, commended the organisers and of the training and the resource persons for the initiative which he said would help to advance the cause of gender-based reporting in the country.

He also encouraged the participants to pay attention to the discussion which he said would help to bridge the gender gap in journalism.

The interactive training program which took place at PRNigeria headquarters Abuja was themed: “Empowering Female Reporters for Leadership Roles in Nigeria.”

The training programme was segmented into various sessions. The first session was taken by Head of Investigations, Media Trust Group, Lami Sadiq, who talked on the topic, “Empowering Female Reporters in Nigerian Newsrooms.” She focused her discussion on the challenges faced in news coverage by female reporters.

The second segment was handled by the Head of Investigations, Fact-check and Special Projects, PRNigeria, Muhammad Dahiru Lawal, whose topic was on “Creating Inclusive Work Environment and Promoting Female Voices in Reporting.”

He discussed extensively on the need to carry everybody along in the work environment irrespective of gender, tribe, religion and geographical affiliation.

The third session was taken by a multimedia journalist, Dorcas Sheffy Bello, who discussed on the topic, “Sharing Experiences on Addressing Gender Disparities in Newsrooms and Strategy for Achieving Gender Equal Reportage”.

She also related her personal experience on the job and encouraged her female reporters to learn and prove themselves anywhere they find themselves.

Participants at the training also described the training as educative and insightful, while commending PRNigeria and Kamed Media for putting the training together.
