Fact-check: Did Powerful Tornadoes Hit Tel Aviv in Early November 2023?

Claims: There’s a viral video on TikTok claiming a dozen powerful tornadoes have hit Tel Aviv Israel earlier this month.

Full Text: According to the video, the tornado was one of the rarest and worst that has ever happened to Israel in recent times.

The video which have been circulating across social media platforms has the following text “Dozen of rare and powerful tornadoes hit Israel in one Day II thousands of buildings destroyed”. And below the video footage, it reads “Without warning, dozens of tornadoes hit Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Ramat, 6th November, 2023 in Israel, Hasharon and… Glory be to God.”

Verification: Inorder to confirm the veracity of the viral video, PRNigeria fact-check team broke it into keyframes and ran a reverse image search which led to a TikTok video with the handle @ntu_channel.

Another result revealed the original video with an entirely different caption to what was captured on the footage of the claims.

According to PRNigeria search, there was no tornado in Tel Aviv, Israel on 6 November 2023, as widely claimed in the video. However, there was a report of a long waterspout warning on Tel Aviv on October 16, 2023, which caused some flooding in the city. There was also a heavy bombardment from Lebanon on November 5, 2023, which damaged some homes in Kiryat Shmona, a town near the border with Lebanon.

The closest event to the claim was a tornado outbreak in the United States on November 6-7, 2023, which affected several states and caused some fatalities

Also PRNigeria fact check investigation revealed that there was a significant tornado occurrence in New jerseys on 6 November 2023, This was according to a BBC news report, with no reference to Tel Aviv Israel.

According to where and when to travel weather forecast,”the weather in Tel Aviv throughout November allows to extend any summer vacation in complete tranquility.”

The reports indicated that the weather in Tel Aviv on 6 November, 2023 was perfect, with clear and sunny days and comfortable temperatures.

The report equally did not provide any specific tornado warning or its occurrence for Tel Aviv on 6 November 2023, but it advised travelers to check the local weather forecast before visiting the city.

Conclusion: Findings by PRNigeria reveal that there was no evidence of a Tornadoe occurrence in Tel Aviv around the period of the claim and no major warnings either on wheather forecasts neither was such incidence reported in reputable media platforms.

PRNigeria therefore concludes that the claims that rare and powerful tornadoes hit Tel Aviv Israel on 6 November 2023 is false.
