47 Prison Inmates Get Relief in Ebonyi, Niger States
Ebonyi Chief Judge Grants Bail to 18, Discharges 7 Inmates, 1 Jyvenile
The Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Hon. Justice Alloy N. Nwankwo,CON,FCI Arb, in exercise of his judicial powers has granted bail to 18,discharged 7 inmates and 1 juvenile.
During the goal delivery exercise conducted at Abakaliki Prisons, Ebonyi State Command.
This came in response to several appeals made to the Honourable Chief Judge, by the Controller of Prisons Ebonyi State Command, Emilia Adobi Oputa, concerning the issue on Prisons decongestion.
The goal delivery witnessed the release of awaiting trial inmates, who due to lack of diligent prosecution processes, has been in custody for a longer period, some have even stayed beyond what could have been their maximum sentence have they been convicted of the charge against them. Others who benefited from the exercise includes, a juvenile, the aged, the sick,and those with simple offences.
The Chief Judge in Concluding the exercise, appreciated the Controller of Prisons and all the staff of Nigerian Prisons Service Ebonyi State Command for their immense hard work and support at ensuring a hitch free exercise.
In response, the Controller of Prisons Ebonyi State Command, Emilia Adobi Oputa, thanked the Honourable Chief Judge for a promise kept and prayed him to make the exercise more regular as it will support the Prisons decongestion process and enable more inmates who deserves freedom to gain same. She also admonished the freed inmates to be law abiding and of good behavior so that they will not become recidivists in future.

Niger Chief Judge Frees 21 Inmates
The chief judge of Niger state Justice Maria Sanda Zukogi has released 21 convicts serving various jail terms in Minna medium security prison on the recommendation of the officer incharge DCP Garba Tsalha Abubakar based on Ill health, good behavior and hardwork.13 others on awaiting trial were summarily tried and convicted.
The CJ warned those released to be of good conduct and avoid act capable of bringing them back to prison. In his address, DCP GT Abubakar thanked the CJ for the visit adding that, it would go along way in decongesting the prison. As at the time of compiling this report,the 160 bed capacity prison is locking 390 inmates with 100 convicts,20 lifers and 10 condemned prisoners. The chief judge was on her routine prison visit across the state.
