UPDATED: Bandits Kill Captain, Soldiers after Troops Foiled Attacks on Niger Communities

Nigerian troops have repelled a three-day siege on Kukoki and Sarari villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, by a large group of bandits who were bent on terrorising the communities.

PRNigeria gathered that a joint force comprising troops from Alawa and Erena alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Shiroro LGA were mobilised to confront the bandits. A fierce gun duel erupted between the two sides at Lolo village, located near Alawa.

The encounter resulted in the death of a significant number of bandits. However, another report indicated that some bandits waylaid and killed some security personnel comprising a Captain, soldiers, and a vigilante while on their way to respond to a distress call around Bassa and Alawa communities in Shiroro local government area of Niger state

Meanwhile, a statement by Niger State Government confirmed the casualty on the military and security operatives.

A press release signed by Bologi Ibrahim,
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Umaru Bago sympathized with the Nigerian over the Killing of a captain and Soldiers.

The statement read thus: Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has sympathized with the Nigerian Army over the killing of a Captain and five soldiers in an ambush by bandits.

The Governor described the incident as atrocious, provocative and unacceptable.

He expressed his deepest sympathy with the security agencies who are daily making sacrifices to ensure the safety of citizens, with most of them paying the supreme price.

The government assured the Nigerian Army and every other conventional and non-conventional security agencies that his administration will not rest on it oars in providing all the needed support towards halting the nefarious activities of bandits.

He also used the opportunity to commiserate with the families of the slayed Officer and men as well as a Vigilante , promising that their deaths will not be a waste.
