World Water Day: FG Calls to Protect Ecosystem

Nigeria today 21st March, 2018 joined the rest of the world in celebrating the 2018 World Water Day with a Road Walk led by the Honourable Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu, ably represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Musa Ibrahim from Eagle Square to Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Headquarters, Area 11 Abuja.

World Water Day is a global annual event usually celebrated on 22nd March every year as a means of focusing attention on the importance of fresh water and advocating for the sustainable management of fresh water resources globally.

The theme for this year’s World Water Day celebration is “Nature for Water” and Engr. Sulieman H. Adamu whilst noting that environmental damage together with climate change are the factors that drive water related crisis around the world, stressed on the need for all to protect the ecosystem to enable the provision of water we need to survive.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General of NTA represented by Executive Director Engineering, Engr. Stephen Okpanachi expressed his happiness with the theme of this year’s World Water Day celebration because water supports all forms of life and promised that Nigeria Television Authority will always partner with the Ministry to create awareness on the need to preserve and recycle water for use.

The Federal Ministry of Water Resources in collaboration with Borehole Drillers Association of Nigeria (BODAN) and in conformity with global practice has also lined up other activities to mark this year’s World Water Day. The activities include; Press briefing at NTA Headquarters and Symposium/Exhibition on Thursday 22nd March, 2018, at NAF Conference Center: Plot 496 Ahmadu Bello Way’ Kado, Abuja.
