OGUN CHIEF JUDGE RELEASES 89 AWAITING TRIAL INMATES IN OGUN PRISONS
The Ogun State Chief Judge, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade CON KJW has released 89 awaiting trial inmates in Ogun State Command Prisons with the charge to inculcate good behaviour in order to ensure that they contribute positively to the development of the nation.
The Chief Judge while releasing the inmates said it was part of efforts to decongest prison formations in the State and ensure that cases in dockets of magistrates and judges were reduced.
‘’The inmates were released with a view to decongest the prisons. The exercise is in accordance with the service of the law under the custody act. I want to appeal to the released inmates to be of good behaviour, so that they do not return to the prison,’’ the Chief Judge said.
Olopade also tasked stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice, on collective responsibilities and necessary synergy that would enhance justice delivery in the State.
While expressing the gratitude of the prisons service, the Controller of Prisons, Ogun State Command, Abolade Benson implored the released inmates to eschew illegal act. He assured chief judge of the present leadership of the Nigerian Prisons Service’s unrelenting commitment to safe and humane custody of prisoners.
The Chief Judge released 16 inmates in Ilaro, 14 in New Abeokuta, Oba, 28 in Old Abeokuta, Ibara, 24 in Ijebu Ode, and 7 in Sagamu Prisons.
The jail delivery exercise by the Chief Judge and the Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice started on Monday April 9th and ended on Wednesday, April 11 2018.
