Fact-check: Did Nigerian School Students Show up at Prom Party in Exotic Cars? 

A viral video has emerged on social media platforms, showcasing a group of impeccably dressed young individuals, purported to be secondary school students, arriving at an unnamed venue in exotic style and vehicles. 

The location, resembling a school compound, has sparked curiosity among viewers.

The youngsters, radiating confidence, stepped out of luxury cars, accompanied by their peers, and made grand entrance. The video has left many wondering about the identity of the school and the occasion, fueling speculation and intrigue.

The trending video has triggered reactions online. Some viewers are wondering how the students were able to afford such luxury, with others speculating that the cars were borrowed. 

However, PRNigeria fact-check keyword search revealed that the video footage, which started trending on August 11-12, 2024, has been reported by various online blogs with different captions, including Legit and Linda Ikeji. 

PRNigeria fact-check team conducted a reverse image search and found that the young people in the video footage are the students of the University Preparatory Secondary School (UPSS), a private Secondary School located in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.

According to investigation, the institution was established in 1987 by Professor Andrew Urevbu, known for its high standards, experienced teachers, and conducive learning environment.  

Further findings reveal that University Preparatory Secondary School (UPSS) is one of the most expensive private secondary schools in Edo State.

Further the school and its students are notorious for hosting extravagant events, as evident in this video here.

However, the School also excels in academic activities as findings revealed that last year, a student named Stephen from UPSS achieved the second-highest JAMB score in Nigeria. 

Also, this year, all UPSS students who sat for JAMB passed, with the top scorers achieving scores well over 350 as reported here.

Findings by PRNigeria established that the young individuals in the video are secondary school students of University Preparatory Secondary School, (UPSS), and the currently trending event is their 2024 graduation ceremony, which is usually followed by a prom party.

Conclusion: 

Findings by PRNigeria reveals that the youngsters seen in the video were the secondary school students of University Preparatory Secondary School in Benin City, arriving in style for their prom after the 2024 graduation ceremony.

PRNigeria fact-check team therefore concludes that the video footage of young boys and girls arriving at a party venue in exotic style is True.
