New Hostels Commissioned in Abeokuta Juvenile Prison
In line with the mandate of the present administration of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) under the leadership of the Controller General of Prisons Service Mr. Ja’afaru Ahmed, to upgrade facilities in every formations a two winged 50 bed space hostel accommodation have been commissioned at the Juvenile correctional Center in Abeokuta.
The hostel was commissioned by the Controller of Prisons and Principal of the centre Mrs Jemilehin. A. Fikemi. In her address,  the hostel was built to ease the burden of custody and in compliance with the specifications of the Child Rights Acts of 2003, the treatment of Children in conflict with the law and in custody as well as the  international best practice for the treatment of offenders. She also advice the students to take good care of the facilities and make better use of the accommodation, as it is meant for their comfort and well-being as the CGPS plans to improve the facilities within the institution.
The hostel which was immediately put to use was equipped with the state of the earth facilities. The new hostel was purposely built to reduced the challenges of congestion thereby created enabling environment for the boys to develop  their personalities and capacities.
Also,  in season of festivity, the students of correctional centre at Abeokuta were in joyous mood as they celebrates Eid-el- fitri in style. The students who have fasted for 29days during Ramadan were elated to be part of the salah celebration.  The institution chaplain, Imam Ganiu Yusuff was on ground to lead the boys in prayer.
 As part of measure to make Eid-el-fitri  worthy of celebration for the boys, non- governmental organizations (NGO’s) like the Habibat charity foundation,  the Muslim corpers, the Muslim community  of Ibara housing estate  and other spirited individuals donated jahlamiyah’s, meals  and drinks for the boys.  These group had supported the boys through the 29days of fasting  with tafsir, donation and recitations of the Quran, prayer books, fruits and supplementary meals for iftar. The Centre was grateful for the support and hands of fellowship extended to the center.
