CDS Vows to Sever Terrorists’ Lifeline, Urges Public Support
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has identified informants and logistical networks as the “oxygen” that sustains terrorism.
Speaking at a Security and Justice Symposium in Abuja, Musa emphasized the need to cut off these lifelines to effectively combat insurgency.
Gen. Musa highlighted the success of denying insurgents access to logistics, citing the surrender of nearly 200,000 insurgents as evidence.
He also stressed the importance of comprehensive intelligence and counter-financing strategies in combating insurgency.
The CDS emphasized the need for public cooperation, including providing information and support to security forces.

He noted that strategic communication with the public is crucial in combating insurgency, warning that misinformation and poor perceptions could undermine military efforts.
Musa also stressed the need for international cooperation, recognizing that Nigeria’s neighbors and international partners play a critical role in combating insurgency.
He stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict, fostering accountability, and ensuring effective cooperation among stakeholders.
In his address, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, also called for a unified approach to countering insurgency and other forms of violence.
Ribadu emphasized the need for enhanced protection of civilians and the importance of accountability in ensuring the legitimacy of security operations.
