ONSA Intensifies Crackdown on Traffickers Following Seizure of 250 Narcotics Containers

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), under Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria by mandating a multi-agency committee to address the growing menace. The committee has been tasked with recommending appropriate measures concerning the interception of illicit drug containers at various ports across the country.

Comprising key military, security, and law enforcement agencies, the multi-agency task force has commenced operations with on-site assessments of critical port facilities, particularly in the southern region.

Preliminary findings indicate that over 250 containers filled with Tramadol, narcotics, and other illicit substances have been identified across multiple ports.

PRNigeria gathered that the committee’s responsibilities include identifying, confiscating, and destroying the intercepted drugs while tracing their origins and those responsible for their importation.

Additionally, the task force will develop strategic recommendations to prevent future occurrences and strengthen security measures at Nigeria’s ports and borders.

So far the taskforce destroyed the Narcotics from at least 30 containers daily.

While inaugurating the task force, NSA Nuhu Ribadu emphasized the direct link between drug abuse and rising violent crimes and insecurity across the country. He urged the team to prioritize public health and national safety by targeting the root causes of illicit drug trafficking.

The task force includes key agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), among others.

This decisive crackdown marks a significant step in disrupting the drug supply chain that fuels addiction, violent crime, and broader threats to national security.
