Police Arrest Female Gun-runner, Drug Suppliers to Bandits, Insurgents in Yobe

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its crackdown on arms smugglers, drug traffickers, and criminal syndicates aiding banditry and insurgency. In recent operations, police tactical teams arrested a female arms courier, disrupted drug supply networks, and recovered firearms and illicit substances meant for criminal elements.

In a major bust on December 23, 2024, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) intercepted a 30-year-old woman, Hauwa Sani, along the Keffi-Abuja Expressway. Sani, a resident of Doro village, was caught transporting 124 rounds of live ammunition concealed in a five-litre container of palm oil. She confessed that she was acting on instructions from one Nasiru of Daura to deliver the ammunition to Katsina State.

Further investigations led to additional recoveries and arrests, with authorities urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

In another intelligence-driven operation on February 1, 2025, FID-STS operatives in Potiskum, Yobe State, apprehended three suspects—Usman Yahaya, 50; Joseph Matthew, 27; and Solomon Bala, 25—while transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrup and other hard drugs. The suspects admitted that the drugs were intended for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers operating in the region and neighboring countries.

The police further tightened the noose on arms traffickers on February 3, 2025, when FID-STS operatives arrested three individuals—Yusuf Dantani, 24; Usman Labaran, 32; and Musa Mohammed, 23—found in possession of 10 AK-47 rifles. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to their involvement in arms trafficking and disclosed that they had received N3.98 million from buyers for a previous transaction.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring national security. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could help in preventing crime and apprehending criminals.
