Seven Boko Haram fighters surrender to troops in Borno, handover weapons
In a major boost to counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s northeast, seven suspected Boko Haram fighters have surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Damasak, Borno State.
The insurgents, who reportedly operated in the Damasak axis, turned themselves in at Walada village following sustained military offensives by troops under Sector 3 Monguno.
Identified as Mallam Baba Ibrahim (19), Malam Bamai Ali (20), Mallam Jundu Ali (19), Mallam Abba Ali (25), Mallam Abubakar Mohammed (20), Tijjani Ali (20), and Mallam Ali Mommudu (25), the individuals cited fatigue and disillusionment with the insurgency as their reasons for surrendering.

Military authorities confirmed that the former fighters handed over a significant cache of weapons, including two RPG tubes, four RPG bombs, an AK-47 rifle, an HK 21 German machine gun, and multiple rounds of ammunition. They also surrendered communication devices, solar panels, bandoliers, and even horses used for mobility.
The MNJTF noted that the defectors are providing critical intelligence to aid ongoing operations. Troops have reiterated calls for other insurgents to take advantage of surrender initiatives, emphasizing that laying down arms is key to achieving long-term peace in the region.
The military remains committed to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring stability in the Lake Chad Basin.
