VP Shettima Leaves Abuja, to Attend Senegal’s 65th Independence Anniversary
Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations on April 4, 2025.
Senegal’s Independence Day marks its liberation from French colonial rule in 1960 and is celebrated annually with vibrant parades, cultural exhibitions, and ceremonial events that highlight the nation’s growth and unity.

In a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, it was revealed that Shettima’s participation followed an invitation from Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. This gesture reinforces the strong diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Senegal, emphasizing their ongoing collaboration within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The central celebration will take place at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, where Vice President Shettima will join President Faye and other distinguished leaders from across the continent and beyond. The event is expected to highlight Senegal’s dedication to democratic governance, regional solidarity, and continued economic and security cooperation with its West African neighbors.
Following the one-day event, Vice President Shettima will return to Nigeria to resume his national duties and further strengthen diplomatic relations.
