NASPRI Integrates AI, Fact-Checking into Strategic Communication Training

The Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) has introduced modules on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Information Management and Fact-Checking as part of its revamped curriculum for the Strategic Communication Course.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the second quarter 2025 courses, held on Friday, April 11, at the Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja Auditorium in Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja, the Acting Commandant of NASPRI, Lt Col Adamu Ngulde, urged participants to embrace evolving technologies shaping the landscape of military communication.

He noted that the training, which includes collaboration with the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Abuja, and Prof. Ishaq Oyebisi Oyefolahan of the Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL), aims to equip officers with skills relevant to the demands of modern-day strategic communication.

“Strategic Communication plays a crucial role in aligning military narratives with national interests, shaping public perception, and combating misinformation during peace and conflict times,” Lt Col Ngulde said.

He also addressed students enrolled in the A1 Photojournalism Course, highlighting the importance of visual storytelling in military operations. He stressed that photographs remain a powerful tool for building public trust, boosting troop morale, and preserving operational history. He added that the Graphics Design and Printing Course would ensure students deliver professional and visually compelling communication materials.

The Acting Commandant thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, for his continued support to the Directorate of Army Public Relations and NASPRI, which he described as vital in maintaining the school’s high standards. He also acknowledged the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Maj Gen Kelvin Aligbe, and the Chief of Training (Army), Maj Gen A.S. Ndalolo, for their guidance throughout the training year.

Earlier, the Acting Chief Instructor, Maj Tonye Wenke, emphasized the importance of the courses for career advancement and effective service delivery. He encouraged participants to approach the training with dedication and discipline, stating that the curriculum is tailored to prepare officers for 5th Generation Warfare, which is heavily driven by information and media strategies.

He also urged students to familiarize themselves with NASPRI’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to uphold the highest levels of military discipline.

A total of 76 students have been enrolled in the second quarter training programme, which includes 16 senior officers for the Strategic Communication Course, as well as participants in the A1 Photojournalism and X3 Graphics Design and Printing Courses.
