NDLEA: Marwa Charges Personnel on Relentless Drug War, Commissions New Facilities in Kano

Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has called on officers and men of the Agency to remain resolute in their fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.

Marwa gave the charge on Saturday, April 19, 2025, during the commissioning of newly constructed blocks of terrace flats meant for personnel of the Zonal Command, Kano Command, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Command, and the Strike Force Team of the Agency deployed to Kano. He also inaugurated a rehabilitation facility as part of the Agency’s expanding infrastructure to support its mission.

According to a statement by the Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Femi Babafemi, the initiative is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of security personnel across the country.

“We are acutely aware that the effectiveness of our officers hinges not merely upon their training and tools, but also upon the quality of their living conditions,” Marwa stated. “A secure and decent home front empowers the spirit, sharpens the mind, and steels the resolve of those tasked with the solemn duty of safeguarding our society from the scourge of illicit drugs.”

Marwa recalled that the Agency commissioned its first-ever barracks in its 35-year history earlier in February in Yola, Adamawa State. He revealed that another facility has been completed in Abuja and is awaiting commissioning by President Tinubu, while similar projects are ongoing in Enugu and Lagos.

Describing the new facilities in Kano as more than just physical structures, the NDLEA boss said they symbolize the government’s respect for officers’ sacrifices and its determination to provide them with the necessary support. “The war against drug abuse and trafficking is not for the faint-hearted—it demands unyielding courage, iron discipline, and a resolute sense of purpose,” he added.

Marwa commended the Kano Command for their impressive performance in arrests, seizures, and convictions in the past year, emphasizing the strategic importance of the state due to its international border and airport. He charged officers in the region to double their efforts and continue to set the pace in Nigeria’s anti-drug campaign.

While advising occupants to treat the newly commissioned accommodations with care and discipline, Marwa reiterated the Agency’s commitment to building a mission-driven and personnel-focused institution that promotes excellence and loyalty.

The event also featured the decoration of Zonal Commander, Zone 5, Maryam Gambo Sani, with her new rank of Deputy Commander General of Narcotics (DCGN).

Marwa expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, and to all stakeholders who have continued to stand with the NDLEA in its constitutional mandate to combat drug-related crimes in the country.
