Fact-Check: Is Nigeria Excluded From The List of Countries With Major Migrant Crime Offenders in UK?

‎Claim: A viral infographic video post circulating widely on TikTok and other social media platforms claims that the UK government released a list ranking countries by the number of migrants committing crimes in the United Kingdom. The narrator celebrates the apparent absence of Nigeria from this list, implying that Nigerians do not significantly contribute to migrant crimes in the UK.

‎The video, captioned “List of migrants crimes in the UK 2024 #RespectNigerians”, features a narrator saying:

‎“This one sweet me well well. UK government has released the list of countries with the highest number of people committing crimes in the UK, I mean immigrants… per 10,000 people. Number 1: Albania. Violence conviction rate: Congo. Drug conviction rate: Albania. Did you see Nigeria there? Noo!”

‎He goes on to claim that Nigerians are hardworking and deserve respect for not appearing on the list. The comment section and reposts of the video were filled with messages like “Shoutout to all Nigerians who are working hard to make a good living abroad! #ProudlyNigerian.”

‎Historically, Nigeria has often been associated, fairly or unfairly, with crime-related headlines abroad, especially due to high-profile fraud and drug cases. This reputation has contributed to negative stereotypes about Nigerians living overseas.

‎Verification: PRNigeria‘s fact-checking team conducted reverse image searches and keyword analysis and found that the video began trending around early May 2025, originating from TikTok and later spreading to Facebook and Instagram.

‎Upon investigating the claims made in the video, PRNigeria fact-check team reviewed data from credible UK sources including the Centre for Migration Control (CMC), Migration Central, GB News, and the BBC.

‎Findings from Official and Independent Sources:

‎Drug Offences: ‎Albanian nationals had the highest recorded conviction rate for drug-related crimes, being 152 times more likely to be convicted than British citizens.

‎Violent Offences: Congolese nationals were reported to be 11 times more likely to be convicted of violent offences compared to British nationals.

‎Top Conviction Rates (per 10,000 population) for 2024:

‎The top five nationalities by conviction rate were:

‎1. Albania

‎2. Moldova

‎3. Congo

‎4. Namibia

‎5. Somalia

‎There is no indication from prison population data that Nigerians are overrepresented among foreign national inmates.

‎Additional Data Highlights (Jan–Oct 2024):

‎Arrests: 131,000 arrests of foreign nationals in England and Wales, constituting 16.1% of all arrests. Foreign nationals represent about 9% of the total population.

Nigeria was not among the top 15 migrant nationalities with the highest conviction or arrest rates in the UK in 2024.

‎The viral video may be promoting a positive narrative about Nigerians abroad, possibly for advocacy, morale-boosting, or image repair.

‎However, the graphics and statistics shown in the video are not drawn directly from any official UK government report and may be selectively interpreted or fabricated.

‎Conclusion: PRNigeria‘ fact-check findings revealed that while the video’s core implication, that Nigerians were not among the top nationalities committing crimes in the UK in 2024 is supported by verified data, the infographic used in the video itself lacks official citation. Still, the absence of Nigeria from the high-crime categories is a verifiable and notable fact.

‎Verdict: PRNigeria therefore concludes that the claim that Nigeria is excluded from the List of countries eith major migrant crime offenders in the United Kingdom TRUE. Nigerians are not in the blacklist.
