NAF @61: CAS Unveils Life-Saving Trauma Centres, New Office Complex in Kano

As part of activities marking its 61st Anniversary, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned a series of critical infrastructure projects in Kano State, aimed at strengthening the operational efficiency, welfare, and healthcare capacity of its personnel.

The commissioning ceremony, which took place on May 13, 2025, at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kano, saw the official unveiling of a state-of-the-art Trauma Centre, an Eye Centre, two blocks of Officers’ Accommodation, and a newly constructed Office Complex for the Military Airport Commandant at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

Presiding over the event, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, described the projects as a significant milestone in NAF’s ongoing transformation into a modern, agile, and resilient force capable of meeting Nigeria’s evolving security needs.

“This life-saving facility stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the contributions of our heroes,” he said, referring to the Trauma Centre, which has been named in honour of retired Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar, a former Chief of the Air Staff and respected elder statesman.

“It is a reminder that their service continues to inspire future generations to serve with courage, honour, and commitment.”

A statement signed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, today in Abuja.

The newly commissioned Eye Centre is also expected to play a pivotal role in preventive and curative eye care, especially in reducing avoidable vision impairment among NAF personnel and their families.

“These health facilities are designed to provide rapid, quality care to wounded personnel, other armed forces members, and even members of the surrounding communities,” the Air Chief added.

Beyond healthcare, the Air Force also took steps to address longstanding accommodation challenges with the completion and unveiling of two blocks of officers’ housing.

According to Air Marshal Abubakar, the new accommodation will significantly boost the morale and living standards of personnel stationed in Kano.

Also commissioned was the Office Complex for the Military Airport Commandant, which is designed to enhance the coordination of air defence operations, airport security, and VIP protocol management at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

“These projects are not isolated achievements,” Abubakar emphasized. “They are part of a broader strategy to strengthen our capacity, uphold excellence, and ensure the Nigerian Air Force remains a vital instrument of national defence and security.”

The CAS expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his unwavering support and commitment to the development of the Nigerian Air Force.

He also thanked the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence, the Kano State Government, traditional institutions, and the host communities for their sustained partnership.

In his charge to officers and personnel, the Air Chief urged them to take full ownership of the facilities and maintain them responsibly. “Let us remain steadfast in upholding our values – integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by top military brass, government officials, and members of the local community, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the Air Force’s role as a pillar of national strength and unity.
