Army Chief Vows to Crush Terrorists, Unveils Plan to Deploy More Combat Enablers

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has announced that the Nigerian Army will soon induct more combat enablers into its operations across the country.

This is part of the renewed efforts to defeat terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes across the country.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 First Bi-Annual COAS Conference held at the Command Guest House, Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State, General Oluyede emphasized that victory in the fight against insecurity lies not only in the weapons used but also in the determination and resilience of Nigerian soldiers.

“The strength of the Nigerian Army is not solely in the weapons on the battlefield but in the courage and will of the gallant soldiers who wield them,” Oluyede stated.

The three-day strategic conference brought together top military brass, including Major Generals, Brigadier Generals, Commanding Officers, and heads of formations nationwide. It provided a platform for assessing the Army’s current operations and proffering innovative strategies to improve its combat effectiveness.

General Oluyede noted that the sessions were marked by “intellectual rigor and strategic foresight,” which he said had exceeded his expectations. He affirmed that the Army would act on the practical solutions offered to enhance national security.

“As a fallout of our deliberations, the Nigerian Army will, in the coming weeks, induct more combat enablers into our operations. This measure is aimed at boosting the fight against insurgency and criminality threatening the fabric of our nation,” he said.

He further charged officers to mentor upcoming soldiers, stressing the need for exemplary leadership that would shape the next generation of military leaders.

“Our actions today will echo into the future. We owe it to the nation and our successors to build a foundation of strength, professionalism, and honor,” he added.

Reaffirming the Army’s resolve to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, the COAS declared: “We are confronted by adversaries who aim to disrupt our way of life. We will not allow that to happen. Our resolve is clear—completely neutralize these threats to peace and stability.”

General Oluyede expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, several state governors, military commanders, security agencies, and traditional and religious leaders for their unwavering support to the military’s mission.

He also commended the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, for successfully hosting the conference.

The event ended with the presentation of awards and souvenirs to distinguished officers in recognition of their exceptional service to the nation.
