BUK 92 Alumni Frees Prisons Inmates, Provides Scholarships, Medications
The 1992 Graduates of Bayero University Kano, BUK 92 Class have freed six prison inmates and provided a sum of N1mn for scholarships of indigent students at the university as part of its annual get-together ceremony.

Speaking of the annual charity programmes, the forum chairman, Muhammad Dahiru Sa’ad said the said the old students had visited Bayero University, the Central Prison and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to provide the social interventions.

Sa’ad said: “The forum this year has provided fund for intervention in critical sectors of our society like health, Social Welfare.

“Apart from payment of fines for the release of six inmates in Kano Central Prison, we have provided essential drugs and sewing machines for the vocational centre and water storage tank to improve water supply in the prison.

“On health, we have paid medical bills of indigent cancer patients, especially of young children whose families could not afford the expenses at the Aminu Kano Teaching.

“We have also provided financial assistance to the families of our deceased and financial challenged members as well as token gifts to some of the school drivers and hall administrators during our schooling years in the university.

Responding after receiving the N1 million cheque from the forum for the scholarship of indigent students, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Yahuza Bello commended the initiatives of BUK 92 in sustaining the annual scholarships and other interventions in the university and other sectors.

Professor Bello said: “I must say that the university is very proud of the annual intervention in the schools and acknowledged your proposed Prize for the Best Student in Business Law in honour of your deceased member Mohammed Iro Maaji who obtained First Class Degree at the Faculty of Social and Management Science in 1992. We pray other groups of old students will emulate you.”

Also speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Controller of Kano Central Prison, DCP Ubale Haruna commended the BUK 92 Forum for freeing inmates through fine payments and the provision Storage water tank and essential drugs for the inmates.

Haruna said: “We are delighted for your intervention in the payment of fines and compensation for indigent inmates whose offences do not pose risk to the general wellbeing of the society. We urge similar associations to emulate your kind humanitarian gestures which is quite exceptional and commendable from university alumni.
