Fact-Check: Did Saudi ‘Sleeping Prince’ Wake Up After 20 Years in a Coma?

Claim: A viral Facebook post and several social media posts claim that Prince Al‑Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal—known as the “Sleeping Prince” of Saudi Arabia—has awakened from a coma after nearly 20 years.

Verification:

Who is the “Sleeping Prince”?

Prince Al‑Waleed has been in a coma since suffering a serious brain injury from a car accident in 2005. He has remained on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, with reports of minimal response, like finger movements, but no full recovery.

An online investigation by PRNigeria revealed that the viral video doesn’t show the prince; it is footage of Yazeed Mohamed Al‑Rajhi, a Saudi rally driver who was injured in a crash during the Baja Jordan rally in April 2025. He was hospitalised, received spinal treatment, and has since been recovering.

Conclusion: Findings by PRNigeria reveals that the viral video in question was footage of Yazeed Mohamed Al‑Rajhi—a famous Saudi rally driver undergoing hospitalisation, not the Saudi Sleeping Prince.

Verdict:

Therefore, PRNigeria authoritatively concluded that the claim that the Saudi “Sleeping Prince”  Al‑Waleed, has finally regained his health is False, and that the prince remains unconscious and in a coma.
