Police, Pharma Manufacturers Partner to Combat Substandard Drugs in Kano

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone One Headquarters, Kano, Ahmed Garba, met today with the Kano State Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) to discuss critical issues facing the industry, including the proliferation of adulterated and substandard pharmaceutical products.

The PMAN delegation, led by Chairman Mr. Charles Emeka, visited AIG Garba to formally introduce the association’s leadership and seek enhanced cooperation with the zonal police headquarters.

A statement by the police spokesperson of the zone, CSP Bashir Muhammad stated that during the meeting, PMAN representatives voiced significant concerns about the influx of fake and substandard pharmaceutical products in Kano State. They appealed to the AIG for support in protecting legitimate products and ensuring the security of their manufacturing facilities and distribution networks.

AIG Pledges Support and Collaboration

AIG Ahmed Garba acknowledged PMAN’s concerns and assured the association of his full commitment to providing the necessary support. He emphasized the crucial role of collaboration between law enforcement and the pharmaceutical industry in combating crimes that jeopardize public health.

The AIG urged PMAN leadership to actively monitor their members’ activities, ensuring strict compliance with regulatory standards and contributing to societal well-being. He affirmed that the Zonal headquarters would work closely with PMAN to address issues impacting the industry.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about the potential benefits of their collaboration. PMAN representatives departed with assurances of the AIG’s dedication to supporting their efforts in ensuring the production and distribution of quality pharmaceutical products in Kano.
