Customs, Lagos Police Partner to Enhance Security at Free Trade Zone

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Lagos Free Trade Zone Command, and the Lagos State Police Command have renewed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration to bolster national security and economic growth.

This development followed the historic visit of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, to the Lagos Free Trade Zone Command on Friday, October 31, 2025 — the first official visit by a sitting Police Commissioner to the Command.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abiola Abdullahi-Lagos, the Police Commissioner was warmly received by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Hauwa Abubakar, along with members of her management team and senior officers.

During the visit, CP Jimoh commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its cooperation and long-standing partnership with the Police in maintaining peace and security across Lagos State.

He described the synergy between both agencies as “a cornerstone of national security and economic stability,” pledging to deepen the relationship for more effective policing and trade facilitation within the Lagos Free Zone and the Lekki corridor.

The Police boss also cautioned against inter-agency rivalry, stressing the need for continued collaboration, mutual trust, and intelligence sharing among security organisations to improve operational efficiency.

In her response, Comptroller Abubakar expressed appreciation for the Commissioner’s visit, describing it as a major milestone in the Command’s history.

She noted her long-standing cordial relationship with the Police throughout her career and referred to CP Jimoh as “a friend, a brother, and a trusted colleague.”

Abubakar also lauded the efforts of the Akodo Police Division and the Police formation within the Lagos Free Zone for their consistent support in maintaining law and order. She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining its collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command to promote peace, enhance trade facilitation, and drive economic development.
