Troops Raid Bandits’ Camp, Eliminate Suspect, Recover Firearms
Troops of Sector 1 under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have raided a notorious bandits’ hideout in the Aterayange general area of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State, neutralising one suspected bandit and recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
According to reports, the operation was conducted between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday following credible intelligence on the movements of a notorious bandit leader known as Full Fire.

Troops of Sub-Sector 1A, led by Major M. Babalola, stormed the target location at about 3:45 a.m., engaging the armed group in a fierce gun battle. Although the ringleader managed to escape, one member of the gang was neutralised during the exchange.
Recovered items from the scene include two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, five AK-47 magazines, one G3 magazine, one hand grenade, two Baofeng radios, 162 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one motorcycle used by the bandits.
Security sources said exploitation of the area is still ongoing, as troops continue to pursue fleeing members of the gang. They added that the soldiers’ morale and operational effectiveness remain high.
Operation Whirl Stroke is a joint military task force set up to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
