Troops Foil Bandit Attack in Sokoto as Police Arrest Kidnappers in Niger State

Security forces have recorded major breakthroughs in operations across Sokoto and Niger States, successfully thwarting a bandit attack, rescuing victims, recovering stolen livestock, and arresting multiple suspected kidnappers and their accomplices.

In Sokoto State, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA repelled an armed bandit assault on Gidan Koro village in Kwargaba District late Tuesday night. According to security sources, the attackers—armed with sophisticated weapons and numbering in large groups—invaded the community around 10:30 p.m. on November 27, firing sporadically, abducting several residents, and rustling livestock.

The swift deployment of troops resulted in a fierce gun duel that forced the bandits to retreat into nearby bushes with possible gunshot wounds. All abducted victims were rescued unhurt, while the rustled animals were recovered after being abandoned by the fleeing attackers. No casualties were recorded among villagers or security personnel.

In a separate development in Niger State, police authorities apprehended four suspected kidnappers and identified several accomplices linked to the abduction of ten people between Koso Likoro and Soba villages in Mashegu Local Government Area.

The suspects—identified as Sanda Dan, Mallam Wantau, and Atiku—were tracked to their hideout in the Ibbi Forest during a coordinated operation. Interrogations reportedly led to the identification of their accomplices: Buba Maiyara, Mantile Alh. Majo, and Bilya Musa Baushe, all from Koso village.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Manu Malami Shehu Maiyara, who confessed that his son, Buba Maiyara, and his associates were responsible for a series of kidnappings and cattle rustling in the area.

Authorities confirmed that the case remains under active investigation as security forces intensify efforts to dismantle kidnapping and banditry networks across the region.
