NIS Introduce E-Passport with 10 Year Validity
Sequel to the Official launch of the new e-passports by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR at the State House on Wednesday 16th January, 2019, The Comptroller General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede MFR, has directed that the following approved passport reforms be communicated to the public for proper information and sensitization.
2. The passport reforms which include introduction of new enhanced passport booklet and passport with ten year validity have the following category of passports and approved fees:
i. 32 page 5 year standard passport @ N25,000 or $ 130 (for oversea application )
ii. 64 page 5 year standard passport @ N 35,000 or $180,000(for oversea application)
iii. 64 page 10 year standard passport @ N70,000 or $ 230.00 ( for oversea application)
iv. 32 page 5 year Official passport @ N15,000
3. The new passport reforms have enormous advantages which comprise passport with ten year validity, self-tracking of application and express centers for urgent application. Other advantages include weather friendliness, compliance with latest ICAO standard, polycarbonate technology that reduces incidence of damage and as well saves Nigerians in diaspora time of frequent visit to Nigerian Embassies.

4.ROLL OUT PLAN/COMMENCEMENT DATE
While the existing passport booklet will run concurrently with the new enhanced passport booklet until the former expires, the following are scheduled dates for the commencement of issuance of the new document:
i. Service Headquarters, Abuja ————————————-4th March,2019
ii. Ikoyi, Lagos———————————————————-25th March, 2019
iii. Kano————————————————————————1st April,2019
iv. Alausa, Lagos————————————————————8th April,2019
v. London, UK————————————————————-15th April,2019
4. The phase 2 multiple Roll out in New York, Washington, Atlanta, USA will follow immediately after London on 22nd April, 2019 while other locations (local and abroad) will follow in sequence from 29th April, 2019.
5. The Comptroller General is hereby advising Nigerians to take advantage of the reforms, avoid patronizing third party or touts and utilize the online platforms provided by the Service for their passport application.
