Kwara Police Nab 3 Suspected Kidnappers, Recover  Ammunition

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and recovered 54 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during an intelligence-led patrol operation in the Bani area of the state.

Sources disclosed that the arrest occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday following a routine patrol conducted by local vigilantes acting on credible intelligence.

According to the sources, the Vigilante Commander in Bani, Taiye Abubakar, and his team were patrolling the Bani axis when they sighted two men riding on a Bajaj motorcycle and attempted to stop them for questioning.

While one of the suspects, Lawale Falike of Sambo Ginda via Jebba, initially fled the scene, the second suspect, Gero Mahamadu of Komi Marshallashi via Bani, was apprehended. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of 54 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.

During interrogation, Gero Mahamadu reportedly confessed that the ammunition was supplied by Alhaji Shahu Fire and Ismail Mashamari, both of Sambo Ginda via Jebba, and was to be delivered to one Manu of Ilesha Baruba for an intended kidnapping operation.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Lawale Falike and Alhaji Shahu Fire, while the suspects were said to have made useful confessional statements to investigators.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, including Manu and Ismail Mashamari, and to recover any additional arms or ammunition linked to the foiled kidnapping plot.
