NAF Airstrikes Pound Terrorists in Timbuktu Triangle, Clear Path for Ground Offensive
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), operating under the Joint Task Force of Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded another major operational success with a coordinated air interdiction mission against terrorist elements at AbbagaJiri in the notorious Timbuktu Triangle.
The operation, conducted on January 8, 2026, was based on actionable multi-source intelligence that confirmed the presence of terrorists, their structures, and concealed logistics facilities within the area. Acting on the intelligence, NAF air assets were deployed in integrated surveillance and precision strike roles to engage the identified targets.
According to the NAF, the air operation was deliberately designed to degrade the terrorists’ operational capability, deny them safe havens, and shape the battlespace in preparation for the advance of ground forces, while strictly adhering to established rules of engagement and ensuring the protection of non-combatants.
Commenting on the success of the mission, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said the operation reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s resolve to dominate the air domain in support of joint military operations.
“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to delivering precise and decisive airpower in support of ground forces. We will continue to deny terrorists freedom of movement, sanctuary, and logistics wherever they seek to hide,” Air Marshal Aneke stated.

The NAF disclosed that identified terrorist structures were decisively struck and destroyed, effectively denying the insurgents freedom of action in the area. A follow-up engagement also neutralised armed elements observed converging on the location after the initial strikes.
Subsequent advances by ground troops into AbbagaJiri further confirmed the effectiveness of the airstrikes, validating the success of the joint air–land operation under Operation HADIN KAI.
Reaffirming the Service’s operational posture, the Air Chief stressed that NAF operations would remain relentless and intelligence-driven until terrorist networks are completely dismantled.
“Our operations are carefully planned and intelligence-led, ensuring maximum effect on hostile elements while safeguarding innocent civilians. The Nigerian Air Force will sustain pressure until terrorist networks are completely dismantled,” he added.
The latest operation underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s aggressive posture, precision employment of airpower, and unwavering commitment to sustained joint operations. It also highlights the critical role of air support in enabling ground forces to maintain momentum and deliver decisive blows against terrorist networks threatening lives, property, and Nigeria’s national security.
The development was contained in a statement issued on January 10, 2026, by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
