Ex-Army Chief Extols 3 Brigade Command for Professionalism, Community Ties
Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), has commended officers and soldiers of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, for their professionalism, resilience and commitment to maintaining peace and stability across Kano State.
Dambazau gave the commendation on Saturday, January 17, 2026, during the 3 Brigade West African Social Activities (WASA) held at Bukavu Barracks, Kano, an event that marked the end of the brigade’s 2025 training year.
The ceremony attracted serving and retired senior military officers, personnel and their families, representatives of sister security agencies, and members of the host community.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, Dambazau described the WASA as a reflection of the troops’ strong connection to their cultural heritage, even as they continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
He noted that the presence of distinguished guests at the event underscored the cordial relationship between the brigade and its host community, as well as the strong collaboration with other security agencies.
The former army chief praised the officers and men of 3 Brigade for their discipline and dedication in securing their Area of Responsibility, particularly in Kano State, in synergy with sister services.
According to him, their collective efforts have contributed significantly to curbing criminal activities and sustaining peace and stability in the state.

He also paid tribute to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifices as a demonstration of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to national security.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Tukur, highlighted the brigade’s operational, training and administrative achievements in 2025.
Tukur said the brigade emerged first in the 1 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition held at Bukavu Barracks and also clinched the overall best position in the 1 Division Inter-Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition in Kaduna.
He added that the brigade remained actively engaged under Operation MESA, confronting banditry and other criminal activities in parts of Kano State, particularly in Shanono, Tsanyawa and Gwarzo Local Government Areas.
The brigade commander noted that officers and soldiers displayed courage and determination in addressing security threats, while honouring the memory of gallant soldiers and a Nigerian Air Force personnel who paid the supreme price during operations.
In his closing remarks, Damazau commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, sister security agencies and the Kano State Government for providing the necessary support and enabling environment for the Armed Forces to carry out their duties effectively.
The event featured cultural performances, award presentations and interactive sessions aimed at strengthening unity and fostering civil–military relations.
