NSCDC Debunks Claims of Unpaid Promotion Arrears to Personnel

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed reports alleging non-payment of promotion arrears and the diversion of funds meant for personnel welfare, describing the claims as false, misleading, and aimed at undermining the leadership of the Corps.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the National Public Relations Officer, ACC Afolabi Babawale, the NSCDC said the allegations, which appeared in some online platforms on January 23, 2026, were “baseless and malicious” and did not reflect the true state of affairs regarding staff welfare and arrears payment.

The Corps clarified that the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, does not oversee the payment of salary or promotion arrears. According to the statement, responsibility for such payments lies with the Presidential Committee on Arrears, chaired by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation and the Accountant General of the Federation.

“The payment of arrears does not fall under the control of the NSCDC. It is processed and disbursed through the appropriate federal government channels,” the Corps said.

Addressing claims that no arrears had been paid since 2022, the NSCDC described the assertion as inaccurate, noting that progress had been made under the current leadership. The Corps disclosed that when Prof. Audi assumed office in 2021, he inherited five years of unpaid salary arrears.

It stated that through engagements with relevant government agencies, the leadership was able to facilitate the clearance of arrears covering the period from 2015 to 2019, benefiting more than 37,000 personnel nationwide.

On the status of the 2020–2022 arrears, the Corps said its Finance, Budget, and Planning Departments had applied to the Presidential Committee on Arrears, following directives from the Commandant General. The request, it added, has been approved, and the payment schedule is currently with the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, awaiting release to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) for disbursement.

The NSCDC also explained that arrears for 2023–2024 are yet to receive approval, noting that government disbursements require presidential authorization and budgetary release.

Regarding promotions, the Corps said the results of the 2025 promotion examinations were released in December 2025, and the process of capturing the financial implications in the national budget is ongoing.

Reaffirming its commitment to staff welfare, the NSCDC said the leadership remains focused on transparency, accountability, and inclusive personnel development. It cautioned against what it described as attempts to use misinformation, cyberbullying, or public pressure to discredit the institution.

The Corps urged media organizations and the public to verify information through official channels before publication, warning that unverified reports could create unnecessary tension among personnel.

The Commandant General also appealed to officers and men of the Corps across the country to remain calm and patient, assuring them that the federal government has pledged to release the necessary funds for disbursement in due course.
