Army Arrests ISWAP Informants in Borno, Drug Suspect in Yobe Operation
Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected informants linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province and a suspected drug peddler in separate intelligence-led operations in Borno and Yobe states.
In Borno State, troops under Operation Hadin Kai apprehended two suspected ISWAP informants in Kaga Local Government Area.
Security sources disclosed that the suspects were arrested at about 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday following credible intelligence from a watchkeeper who reported suspicious movements within the Mainok general area.
Troops of the 156 Task Force Battalion were said to have responded swiftly, intercepting the suspects while they were moving towards the Goni–Masari axis.
The suspects were reportedly found in possession of electrical cables at the time of their arrest, raising concerns over possible sabotage activities or logistical support for terrorist elements.
They are currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigation to determine their roles and possible links to insurgent networks.

Sources noted that the operation highlights the critical role of community-based intelligence in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts across the North-East.
In a separate operation in Yobe State, troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and local vigilante groups, arrested a suspected drug peddler in Bade Local Government Area.
The operation was conducted at about 9:00 p.m. on March 16 in the Takari general area, following credible intelligence on illicit drug activities.
Personnel of the 159 Battalion, alongside NDLEA operatives and vigilante members deployed in Gashua, carried out a coordinated raid that led to the suspect’s arrest.
Items recovered include seven wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and other illicit substances.
The suspect and the recovered exhibits have since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
Security sources reaffirmed the commitment of the armed forces and partner agencies to sustaining coordinated operations aimed at disrupting terrorist networks and curbing criminal activities in the region.
