Troops Destroy IED Along Damboa–Maiduguri Highway
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Damboa–Komala–Maiduguri highway in Borno State while conducting escort operations for civilian commuters.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 8:40 a.m. on March 19, 2026, during a coordinated patrol by troops of 25 Brigade Garrison and 19 Battalion (Mechanised), working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The troops were engaged in a fighting patrol along the main supply route from Damboa to Maiduguri as part of ongoing efforts to secure the corridor and deny terrorist elements freedom of movement.

During the operation, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team identified an IED allegedly planted by suspected terrorists along the route and carried out a controlled detonation at the location, neutralising the threat without incident.
The patrol also facilitated the movement of civilian traffic, escorting 32 vehicles from Damboa to Komala, where they were handed over for onward movement to Maiduguri. Following the clearance of the route, troops further escorted 60 civilian vehicles back to Damboa safely.
According to the sources, the operation underscores sustained efforts by the military to secure critical road networks, protect civilians, and prevent attacks along key transportation corridors in the North-East.
They added that continued troop presence, combined with routine clearance and escort operations, has significantly improved safety along the route and boosted public confidence among road users.
