Navy Dismantles IED Network, Neutralizes IPOB/ESN Militants in Imo Operation
The Nigerian Navy has recorded a significant operational breakthrough following the dismantling of an improvised explosive device (IED) network in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.
The operation, conducted by personnel of the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron in collaboration with other security agencies, targeted suspected hideouts linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The clearance mission covered the Orsu–Ihiteukwa axis, including the Mother Valley general area.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the troops encountered several improvised explosive devices during the operation, confirming the existence of an active IED cell in the area.
Further exploitation of the location led to the discovery of an IED-making facility. Naval operatives subsequently executed a coordinated ambush, resulting in the neutralization of two suspected IED specialists.
All explosives recovered from the site were safely destroyed in situ, effectively removing potential threats to civilians and security personnel operating in the region.
The Navy confirmed that the operation was completed without casualties or loss of equipment.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Nigerian Navy stated that it would continue to sustain aggressive, intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace in the South-East.
